    Cathy Petrucci
    TIP Project:
While oncology patients are waiting for their out-patient appointments for treatment, blood work, or check-ups, have a computer terminal available for each patient to sit at for a few minutes and answer questions to assess their status. This way important issues will be addressed, and patient's concerns will not be overlooked in a fast-paced environment. There could be some general themes to pick from, such as pain, constipation, insurance problems, as well as room for the patient to add their own. I think it is important that at every encounter, patients are given the opportunity to have their concerns addressed. A link to the patient's chart can document topics discussed, and what needs follow-up. The nurses who treat the patients can be notified of these issues, and educational resources can be printed and reviewed with the patient, as needed. The patient could also be permitted to identify his or her preferred method of receiving information (eg. print, one on one discussion, small group meetings, audio-visual resources, etc.).
